The NRCGA hosted its 2013 Excavator Appreciation Event on November 6 to thank Las Vegas contractors for keeping people, property and infrastructure safe! Tom Georgi of the Las Vegas Valley Water District chaired the event committee this year. The event was sponsored by CenturyLink, Cox Communications, ELM, Kern River Gas, Southwest Gas, Las Vegas Valley Water District, USA North 811, the National Utility Contractors Association of Las Vegas, and the cities of Henderson and Las Vegas.
The event was enhanced with three safety presentations. Rob Cunningham from Cox talked about the wide-ranging consequences and cirumstances involved with damaging communications facilities. One excavation damage resulted in over $3,000,000 in costs! Tom Georgi presented information about the NRCGA and stand-by required for gas transmission facilities. Dick Schneider taught the group ten rules for trench safety.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of the Outstanding Performance Award to Tom O’Rourke of Underground, Inc. The Silver Shovel Award went to Bravo Underground, Inc., for safe work performance, which was accepted by Jose Ledon on behalf of Bravo. Stephan Sifuentes, regional representative for Senator Dean Heller, also presented O’Rourke and Ledon with certificates on behalf of the state of Nevada.
The attendees didn’t leave hungry! Sponsor companies provided a full dinner including chicken, ribs, sausage, potatoes and dessert. The night ended with a raffle of over sixty prizes including tools, a TV and numerous $50, $100, and $150 gift cards.
