Southwest Gas Wins 2024 Silver Shovel Award!
The competition was fierce! AIMS Companies, Southwest Gas and the Las Vegas Valley Water District were the top three contenders this year. These companies met the requirement of having no at-fault damages in 2023 and the highest ticket volume. After sitting through an interview with the NRCGA Board of Directors, Southwest Gas came out on top.
Zero At-Fault Damages Excavators
The three Silver Shovel Candidates weren’t the only safe diggers in 2023. Find out here if your company made the zero at-fault damages list. Thank you to these excavators for making Nevada a safer place!
About the Silver Shovel Award Ceremony
To thank excavators for using safe digging practices in their day-to-day work, the NRCGA hosts an annual excavator appreciation event in Southern Nevada.
The NRCGA’s Excavator Appreciation Dinner & Silver Shovel Award ceremony features a dinner, short presentations from damage prevention experts, lots of raffle prizes, and an award ceremony to present one excavator with the Silver Shovel.
Silver Shovel Award Criteria
- 811 ticket data from Underground Service Alert is used to list excavators based on ticket volume.
- Southern Nevada utility operators “scrub” the list to remove excavators who caused at-fault damages to underground utilities the previous calendar year.
- The NRCGA’s Board of Directors conduct in-person interviews with the top 3 excavators.
- The top excavator receives a life-size silver shovel to display at the office, as well as one paid trip to the Common Ground Alliance‘s annual Excavation Safety Conference & Expo.
